Notes for the Curious: Edition #54

Hello,

Does anyone else feel like the year is going too fast? I can't believe we are at the end of April already. I'm working on some really exciting projects which I can't wait to tell you more about in upcoming Notes. What I would really love to hear about though is what you are working on right now. Is there something that you would like to get more attention to? I would love to dedicate a section of the Notes to what readers are doing so that we can support our community of Curiosity Seekers. Hit reply if you've got something to share.

In the meantime, let's get on with the Notes...

1) Keep up!

Right now it feels like social media is changing every week. New algorithms, new terms, new practices. It's exhausting. Luckily for us, those clever sticks over at Agora Pulse have spoken to the experts and put together their top tips for staying on top of social media.

2) Stop "shoulding" all over yourself

I love this and it's something I say ALL the time to my clients when I hear them saying "I should do this" "I should do that". Nothing good ever came from beating yourself up about all the stuff you're not doing. So let's stop "shoulding" and start doing. This is how to turn your shoulds into practical actions

3) Steal this workflow

This is e-p-i-c. I love this breakdown from Buffer on how they produce up to four long-form (1,500 to 2,000 word) articles per week. The 3-day outline is so smart and I will definitely be adopting it myself. There is a lot of detail in this piece on how they breakdown the time spent on each part of the process.

4) The B-Card shuffle

The Spark conference was wonderful, truly our best yet. As usual I came home with a pile of business cards which need to be put to good use. Rather than let them sit in a corner of my desk, I'm scanning them using this super-simple app, Wantedly. It scans up to 10 cards at once meaning it takes only a couple of minutes to get them into your contacts.

5) Be a better speaker

I am always looking to make improvements on my speaking techniques. At the recent Spark Women conference I moderated a panel for the first time. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I think I may even enjoyed it more than giving a talk myself. I genuinely enjoyed the opportunity to help tell the stories of the three women on the panel. After all, "We rise by lifting others". Inc has put together five tips to help you improve instantly as a speaker.

Until the next Notes,

Emmy

P.S. May is looking like a very busy month. I have just four slots left for Business Brainstorm sessions. If you have been thinking of picking my brain about something you want to breakthrough in your business then do not delay. Grab one of the remaining spots before they are all gone. Sessions are fast-paced and action oriented, don't miss out.
